Introduction

The ESP8266 2.42" OLED Desk Clock is a multifunctional network clock board from OLIGHKER. Based on the ESP-12F Wi-Fi module, it integrates a 2.42-inch 128×64 OLED display, temperature/humidity and barometric pressure sensors, an RGB status LED, an active buzzer and one-touch Wi-Fi provisioning — usable as a desktop clock and as an entry-level ESP8266 IoT development platform.

Hardware

1. First Use and Wi-Fi Setup

On power-up the device enters AP+STA concurrent mode: it starts the configuration hotspot DeskClock-XXXXXX and at the same time tries to connect to the last saved home Wi-Fi.

1.1 Setting up Wi-Fi with a phone

1. Open Wi-Fi settings on your phone and join the hotspot named DeskClock-XXXXXX; the password is fixed at 88888888.

2. If the phone reports that the hotspot has no internet, stay connected anyway; open http://192.168.4.1/ in a browser (some phones pop the page up automatically).

3. After the page loads, choose or scan for a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, enter its password and tap “Connect & continue”.

4. Once connected, the device immediately saves the verified credentials; continue configuring the time zone, alarm and weather city.

5. Tap “Save & restart” — all settings are written to Flash with read-back verification, and the device restarts automatically in about 2 seconds.

Note: The setup hotspot is available from power-on and never closes when the home Wi-Fi connects; its password is fixed at 88888888. When uploading a sketch, set Erase Flash in the Arduino IDE to “Only Sketch”, otherwise the saved Wi-Fi passwords will be erased.

1.2 Development environment

To modify or extend the firmware, select NodeMCU 1.0 (ESP-12E Module) in the Arduino IDE, set CPU Frequency to 160 MHz, set Erase Flash to Only Sketch, and install ESP8266 Core 3.0.1 together with the U8g2 library. The NeoPixel driver and the single-file ArduinoJson library are already bundled.

FAQ

Q1:No display after power-on

Check that the USB-C power supply is working; view the boot log at 115200 baud and confirm that the I2C scan finds address 0x3C.

Q2:Cannot open the setup page

Make sure the phone is connected to the DeskClock-XXXXXX hotspot with password 88888888, then open http://192.168.4.1/.

Q3:Wi-Fi reports an authentication failure

reason 15/202/204 means the password or handshake failed; re-enter the password and tap “Connect & continue”.

Q4:The clock keeps waiting for time sync

The device has not connected to an internet-enabled Wi-Fi or NTP is blocked; check that the router allows access to ntp.aliyun.com and pool.ntp.org.

Q5:Weather does not update

Make sure Wi-Fi is online and time sync has completed; the first weather request starts only after 60 seconds of stable connection; TLS errors can be found in the serial log.

Q6:The alarm does not ring

Check that the alarm is enabled and the time is set correctly; in weekdays-only mode it does not trigger on Saturday or Sunday.
